Overview:

• WFP’s mission is to provide humanitarian food assistance to the most vulnerable individuals in the West Bank and Gaza. WFP programmes buy local food and support Palestinian private enterprise, build the economic resilience of families facing the threat of displacement, and increase the capacity of the Palestinian Authority’s social safety net programmes.
• Food insecurity in the occupied Palestinian territory is driven primarily by poverty linked to the ongoing occupation.
• Restrictions on freedom of movement, access to natural resources, the right to pursue gainful employment, and on international trade and investment has left 27 percent of households, or 1.3 million Palestinians, unable to meet their basic food and household expenses.
• Over the last three years, WFP has invested over US $80 million in local purchases in the Palestinian territory, and provided US $18 million in vouchers to vulnerable households.
